ABOUT THIS EVENT
Saxophonist Gerrit Hatcher and pianist Erez Dessel present a new project rooted in the tradition but looking ahead, never bound by aesthetics and deeply grounded by an improvisatory practice that spans space and time.
The evening also features poetry readings by three compelling voices: Allegra Harvard, Kai Ihns, and Hannah Brooks-Motl.
THE ARTISTS
Hatcher+Dessel

Allegra Harvard
Allegra Harvard (b.1999) is a Chicago-based artist, writer, and curator. Currently, she curates Unda.m.93 with collaborator Parker Davis. Her previous work has been shown at EXPO Chicago, House of Earth, Printed Matter, Weatherproof, and the late SULK CHICAGO.
Kai Ihns
Kai Ihns lives and works in Chicago. She is the author of two books of poems, sundaey (Propeller Books, 2020), and Of (The Elephants, 2024), as well as a number of chapbooks, most recently THE BIRDS (3 Count Pour, forthcoming 2025). Other projects include The Year, a chapbook press.
Hannah Brooks-Motl
Hannah Brooks-Motl is the author of the poetry collections The New Years (2014), M (2015), and Earth (2019). Her poetry, essays, and criticism have appeared in the Best American Experimental Writing, the Cambridge Literary Review, the Chicago Review, and Modernism/modernity. She earned an MFA from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and PhD from the University of Chicago.
